Student Insurance

Insurance Options:

Please read carefully as these details have changed several times in recent years and the specific  insurance arrangements may differ between our courses and venues.

Ufton Court and UK K1 students are covered to instruct at the course venue under the general SKY insurance and this includes the public classes at the end of course retreat under the supervision of your trainers.

This insurance is included in your course registration fee but it does not extend to other public classes e.g. “covering a class” for a yoga teacher.

After you are certified you will be responsible for arranging your own insurance cover but until that time we support the (optional) arrangement of  cover for students who have been observed teaching to the required standard during the course but who have not yet completed the course.

As of 2020 there are two different insurance options (three if you count not teaching outside the course and not needing additional insurance, or possibly four if you count adding yoga instruction onto a policy you already hold e.g. as a therapist). Option 1 costs less and is basic but you can upgrade later. Option 2 costs more initially but gives you more i.e. cover for more than 2 hours teaching per week. Both policies are with reputable brokers and underwriters. Option 1 is not currently available on i-SKY North courses.

Option 1.  As we are now registering courses with YogaAllianceProfessionals.org if you are so registered you will have the option to add on Trainee Insurance cover which will allow you to teach up to 2 hours a week. This cover is provided through Balens Ltd and currently costs £15 (for up to 18 months). You must have been signed off (passed with no X in the Needs to Improve column) on your i-SKY Assessment of Student Practicum form before you apply and you must not instruct beyond the level to which you have been taught. Use this link to see the basic cover provided or apply directly yourself YAPcoverHere

Option 2. This is the YogaLink insurance we have offered through a yoga friendly broker for years. If you take up this personal cover you will receive your own named certificate of insurance and you will be able to offer as many public classes as you wish. Please note: A student teacher must first notify their class that they are still undergoing training and they must NOT teach techniques beyond the level reached in their training programme.

You can arrange this student insurance at any time after you have passed your practical assessment (usually w/e6 on the course) by applying directly to WellBeing Insurance via this online form and informing them that you are a current i-SKY student; the cost may be around £40* (paid directly to the insurance broker).

When you qualify as a teacher the annual insurance cost may increase to around £60* (paid directly to the insurance broker).

There is currently no difference between the Student cover and Qualified teacher insurance cover but remember:

A student teacher must first notify their class that they are still undergoing training and they must NOT teach techniques beyond the level reaching in their training programme.

Please also note that insurance cover before 2020 was generally assumed that the teacher and the student would be in the same actual room;  specific conditions now apply to online teaching -please note these and ask if the limits and conditions of cover are not clear .
